Louise Irving, A Paper Sword

New work by Northern Rivers artist Louise Irving.  Seven pairs of prints, begun in Scotland and completed at home, represent parts of the body which have two halves.  Paper napkins stained by the act of eating record meals taken in significant places. Collected and re-imagined they serve as backgrounds upon which the tensions of cultural identity are explored.

Cedar Henderson, Recent work

Storytelling in its many forms is my passion and fuels my practice. I have become fascinated by the histories and mythologies that surround and inform traditional fairytales. My investigation into the histories that surround such narratives creates a link to my cultural heritage as these narratives have their roots in the traditions and homes of my cultural ancestors.  I find myself lost in the tall stories my grandmother spins. When I visit her home I am fascinated by the way everything becomes wrapped in story, every object has a history and stories weave their way into each conversation. This body of work has become a collection of fragments that map this dialogue.

Jump aboard for the ride of your life when the true Australian outback comes to Lismore for an unforgettable season from Friday 30th July - Sunday 8th August, 2010. Featuring some of the most magnificent horses in Australia and alongside a menagerie of other four-footed pals, international horse master Rene Gasser’s says his new show, "The Horseman from Snowy River" will delight every generation who seek action packed entertainment.

Thrill to the sights and sounds of six horses and Drizabone-clad riders thundering into the arena to recreate a spectacular Olympics opening routine. And that just sets the tone for what follows – see the giants of the horse world, the majestic Clydesdales, performing comedy routines with miniature ponies.

Every true outback show features high energy trick riding and The Horseman from Snowy River is no exception. This combined with two majestic Lipizzaner Stallions displaying their skills under the long rein and a comedy act with Tam the wonder dog as he demonstrates his skills with his unruly four-legged friend, presents a show designed to entertain the whole family.

There is a range of seating prices to suit every pocket, and also available to the horse enthusiast a Horse Training Clinic on the 2nd Thursday at 7:30pm to demonstrate first-hand how these magnificent horses are trained plus a additional meet and greet (VIP stable tour) after every performance.

If you only choose one special event to go to each year, The Horseman from Snowy River is the one that will live on in your memory forever as a great night out.
