Keeper for a Day at the Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
During the school holidays The Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary offers a great experience for children aged between 12 and 18 where they can spend the day behind the scenes with one of the senior keepers.
Children will discover what a day in the life of a sanctuary keeper is like through interactive, hands-on activities as well as learn about local wildlife conservation efforts. They can also participate in animal husbandry practices, observe wildlife and their natural behaviours, and create and provide enrichment for the wildlife residents by making safe treats and toys that encourage play and stimulate natural behaviours.
Additionally, they will go on a sanctuary tour with a designated keeper, meet all the wildlife residents, watch the interactive keeper talks including a reptiles talk, free flight bird presentation, and kangaroo and emu feeding sessions, and enjoy a private snake and lizard encounter.
Morning tea, lunch and an ice cream are included. If your child needs additional snacks throughout the day they are welcome to bring a lunchbox.
Please pack their swimmers and a towel as on hot days the keeper program sometimes concludes in our water splash park.
This one-day workshop is perfect for young people aged 12 to 18 who are independently physically capable.
