Abstract Rhythms – Painting with Jacqueline Scotcher

This workshop by artist Jacqueline Scotcher will guide you through abstract drawing and acrylic painting techniques to create small experimental artworks on canvas. Using natural rhythms such as tides, local hinterland landscapes and daybreak as inspiration, you will explore how to take sensations into paint. Working in a way that lets a process unfold, rather than following a set plan, Jacqueline will demonstrate layering paint and colour, as she shares how ideas are generated in her practice.

Commencing with a tour of Jacqueline’s NRCG exhibition “Boundary Rider”, this will be a friendly and inspiring workshop that leaves participants with practical skills and fresh inspiration to begin their own painting journey, or to incorporate into an existing practice.

Suitable for beginners and experienced painters alike.

Jacqueline Scotcher’s studio practice is primarily abstract painting, working on themed series based around time, place and movement. She has presented solo exhibitions at Logan Art Gallery, Revival Art Gallery, Newstead Studios, Kick Arts Contemporary Arts Cairns, and Cairns Art Gallery, been selected as a finalist in the Wollumbin Art Prize, Lethbridge Landscape Prize, and Byron Arts Magazine BAM Art Prize. Her art practice is studied as part of the QLD senior visual arts curriculum, and she holds a Doctorate in Philosophy (Creative Arts), Hons. Creative Industries and a Bachelor of Visual Arts.
