Prepare to be swept off your feet, literally and musically, as Black Square Quartet brings their pulse-racing new program, Five Quick-Tempered Dances, to stages across Queensland and New South Wales August.

This electrifying showcase of contemporary string quartet repertoire is a bold celebration of rhythm and movement. At its centrepiece is Thomas Green’s String Quartet No. 2, a high-octane work commissioned by BSQ during the pandemic, channeling raw energy and dynamic interplay.

Joining the line-up is Jessie Montgomery’s percussive showpiece Voodoo Dolls, a thrilling new composition by BSQ’s very own Mike Patterson, and a daring reimagining of Duke Ellington’s Blue Bubbles by composer Philip Eames. Each piece in the program is a testament to the quartet’s boundary-pushing creativity and their commitment to rethinking what a string quartet can be.
