Travelling to Byron from the Ballina Airport
The Ballina-Byron Gateway Airport is just over an hours flight from Sydney and Newcastle, and two hours direct flight from Melbourne. Jetstar, Virgin, Regional Express and Pelican Air all fly into Ballina, making the Northern Rivers a very accessible holiday destination.
The airport is just 3 kms from the centre of Ballina and a five minute taxi drive or hop on a local Blanch’s bus (640) that will take you straight into town (Monday to Saturday) $3.40 for adult single or $1.70 consession.
Byron Bay is just 31 kms from Ballina. Catch the same Blanch’s Bus (640) either from the airport or from Tamar Street in Ballina to Byron for just $7.20 for adult single, $14.40 adult return or $3.60 concession, $7.20 concession return. You’ve also got the option of purchasing a Freedom all day unlimited pass for $12.

There are also a number of private shuttle buses that operate between the Ballina-Byron Gateway airport, Ballina and Byron town centres.
