The East Ballina Aboriginal Place is a special reserve gazetted under the National Parks and Wildlife Act. It recognises the cultural significance of this place following the massacre here of a significant but undocumented number of Aboriginal people in the late 1850s. No official acknowledgement of this event was ever made. The gathering place tells the story of that terrible day while also detailing the cultural importance of this Aboriginal Place.
