River Street Flags in BallinaLook out for: seven flags between Cherry and Moon streets

The artist, Rachel Stone said the inspiration for this design came from stories that the children and elders told at the community engagement day at Ballina Public School - stories of beautiful blue seawater, rolling waves and glorious sunshine.

"It seems that everyone – young and old alike – drew great pleasure from the local river, beaches and general aquatic nature of life in Ballina. Further inspiration came from the story of the amazing Las Balsas raft expedition that arrived, unexpectedly, in the Richmond River in 1973 – all the way from Ecuador! This was the first modern-day raft crossing of the Pacific Ocean” Rachel Stone
