Celebrate Plastic Free July with a FREE Screening of Ocean with David Attenborough
Ballina Shire Council is inviting the community to celebrate Plastic Free July and the whale watching season with a free screening of Ocean with David Attenborough on Thursday 3 July, from 6:15pm at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre.

The acclaimed 95-minute documentary showcases the awe-inspiring beauty of the ocean—from coral reefs to kelp forests—and highlights the crucial role it plays in sustaining life on Earth. The film also explores the threats posed by industrial fishing and plastic pollution, and the importance of marine protected areas.

Council’s Resource Recovery Education Officer, Justine Rowe, said the screening is an opportunity to come together as a community to reflect on positive changes that can be made to reduce plastic waste.

“Our coastline is world-class and the ocean connects us all. This screening is a great way to encourage small steps, like refusing single-use plastics, which can lead to long-term, sustainable habits,” Ms Rowe said.

The all-ages event will include a short discussion after the screening. As a plastic free event, attendees are encouraged to bring their own plastic-free snacks and reusable water bottles. Refill stations will be available onsite.
